The Communication major prepares you for a successful career in media, communications, advertising, marketing, social media, and other communication fields. By blending theory with hands-on learning, the program immerses students in the study of communication, mass media, writing, and research.
Take courses in communications, digital media and professional communication, and apply your knowledge through student media outlets including the 1851 Chronicle student newspaper, student magazines, and the student-run WLAS radio station. You'll also have access to a multi-cam TV studio, green screen, post-production lab (equipped with Adobe CC including Premiere and AfterEffects), and professional lighting and sound kits.
Learn how to critically analyze the content, functions, effects, and ethics of media in a diverse, global society. And, communication majors gain proficiency in effective verbal and written communication, problem-solving, and persuasive communication.
Communication students complete at least one required internship and a capstone experience in which they develop a digital portfolio to showcase their skills and abilities in the field of communication. A Master of Science in Communications is also offered. Complete your B.A. and M.S. in Communication in as little as five years.
