Semester in the City is a program that gives Lasell college students the opportunity to participate in a fully-credited, semester-long, experiential learning program that is built around a meaningful internship at a leading social mission business, nonprofit, or government agency in the city of Boston. Semester in the City internships are combined with intensive mentoring, reflection, and skill-building courses and seminars. Students gain the skills and experiences employers are looking for, while discovering their passion, connecting real-world and classroom learning, and building their confidence. Participating students join the program as Social Innovation Fellows, and participate in a transformative 15-week program that allows them to address current social issues while developing essential skills and networks that prepare them for life and work after graduation. During their Semester in the City, Fellows will intern with a nonprofit, social mission business or government agency four days a week, for 14 weeks. Fellows will gain 420 hours of work-based experience, allowing them to learn more about themselves and their passions while also building their skills and networks. Students are placed in internships aligned with their interests, be it criminal justice reform, education, gender equality, environmental sustainability, or beyond.
