Semester in the City allows Lasell students to participate in a fully-credited, semester-long, experiential learning program built around a meaningful internship at a leading social mission business, nonprofit, or government agency in the city of Boston.

Semester in the City internships combine mentoring, reflection, and skill-building courses and seminars.

Students join the program as Social Innovation Fellows, and participate in a transformative 15-week program where they intern with a nonprofit, social mission business or government agency.  Interns can work on a range of issues including criminal justice reform, education, gender equality, environmental sustainability, and more While every placement will be a little different, each Fellow will have a dedicated mentor. Students who complete the program earn 16 Lasell credits.

Costs and Housing

Students participating in the Semester in the City program are registered at Lasell and are billed all the costs of the program through Lasell. Costs include tuition, room, board, and fees. Semester in the City offers Fellows an apartment housing option, or if they have family or friends in the greater Boston area, they can live with them and do not have to pay room or board.

Fellows who choose to live in Semester in the City Housing will share a furnished apartment with  between four and six Fellows. Both single and double rooms are offered, and Fellows share a kitchen, bathroom and living room area. Though students are housed in Semester in the City apartments, all costs are billed by and payable to Lasell by the billing due date. Students receiving financial assistance from Lasell will continue to receive their aid while participating in Semester in the City.
