Position Description:

The Graduate Assistant – OSAO is an integral part of the OSAO staff. With a primary focus on event management, new student programming and Orientation support, and promoting and marketing the services and events of the office, this student development generalist position collaborates with professionals in OSAO to deliver quality programming and direct student support.

Promote and market the Office of Student Activities and Orientation in a variety of ways. including but not limited to: preparing and sending the weekly Student Activities e-newsletter; primary responsibility for maintaining the social media postings/accounts for the office; assisting in the creation of marketing campaigns for OSAO events; updating the plasma screens throughout campus, maintaining the department website.

  • Assist in the design and implementation of campus-wide events, including: the semi-annual Activities Fairs; the annual Family, Friends, and Alumni Weekend; and the annual Awards Banquet.
  • Work with activities specifically focused on first-year and sophomore students, including coordinating and implementing the annual “Sophomore Connection” event.
  • Support new student programs coordinated and delivered by the office, including Laser Welcome Weekend (early September) and Laser Link Orientation (January and June).
  • Communication:  colleagues throughout the Division of Student Affairs and Academic Affairs, Plant Operations, Information Technology, Campus Police, and others.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Required qualifications and skills:

  • The position will require 20 hours of work/week.
  • Bachelor’s Degree required and prior student leadership experience (Student Government, Campus Activities Board, Orientation Leader) recommended.
  • Must be accepted and enrolled in a Lasell University master’s program.
  • Demonstrated interest and competency working with student groups.
  • Strong understanding of intercultural competence and engaging populations including racially diverse, LGBTQ+, first-generation, commuter students and transfer students.
  • Ability to handle multiple assignments and responsibilities.
  • Periodic evening and weekend availability is required.
  • Expertise in social media platform utilization (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram); knowledge of social media scheduling software (Hootsuite) is preferred.
  • Excellent written and oral verbal skills.

After 10 months working on this team, this person will have great work experience to showcase to a future employer. This person will also have the opportunity to pursue a graduate degree for a reduced price within Lasell University’s Graduate School of Professional Studies.

Required Qualifications

Must have a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate field with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
