Position Description:

The Biochemistry Graduate Assistant plays a vital role in supporting chemistry and biology courses by assisting faculty members in instructional activities and supporting the lab manager with day-to-day operations. This position reports to Hailey Garrison. 

  • Offer tutoring assistance to students, addressing questions related to lecture and laboratory experiments and course content. Communicate effectively with science instructors and students to address inquiries and provide assistance.

  • Assist the lab manager in preparing materials, chemical solutions, and bacterial cultures for biology, chemistry, and biochemistry experiments. This position will aid in maintaining laboratory safety protocols and compliance with safety regulations.

  • Monitor and manage inventory and lab supplies, as well as collaborate with the lab manager to maintain the overall organization of and cleanliness of all science labs.

  • Provide support to science instructors in the setup and breakdown of laboratory sessions; collaborate with faculty and lab manager to facilitate smooth laboratory operations.

  • Participate in training sessions related to laboratory safety, equipment usage, and other relevant topics; stay informed about best practices in laboratory management and science education.

Required qualifications and skills:

  • Bachelor's degree in the physical sciences or a related field (required).

  • Acceptance into a graduate program of a related discipline.

  • Strong understanding of general science concepts and laboratory techniques.

  • Effective communication and interpersonal skills.

  • Prior tutoring or instructional skills within a STEM discipline (preferred)

  • Commitment to promoting a positive and inclusive learning environment

Required Qualifications

Must have a Bachelor's degree in an appropriate field with a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher
