Biography:

Dr. Sunil Shaw is Associate Professor of Biology at Lasell University, where he teaches molecular biology, genetics, microbiology, and immunology. He is passionate about providing students with engaging, hands-on learning experiences that prepare them for careers in biotechnology, medicine, and biomedical research.

Before joining Lasell, Dr. Shaw spent nearly two decades at Brown University and Women & Infants' Hospital, where he served as Principal Investigator and Director of the Kilguss Research Core. He led a multidisciplinary molecular biology and imaging facility that supported hundreds of researchers and contributed to more than 250 peer-reviewed publications.

Dr. Shaw's research has focused on immunology, cell biology, and the molecular genetics of the emerging fungal pathogen Candida parapsilosis. His work has employed CRISPR genome engineering, molecular biology, fluorescence microscopy, and proteomics to investigate how fungal cell wall proteins contribute to growth and disease.

An enthusiastic mentor, Dr. Shaw has trained undergraduate and graduate students, postdoctoral fellows, and research staff throughout his career. His teaching philosophy emphasizes active learning, scientific curiosity, and authentic research experiences that help students develop technical skills, critical thinking, and confidence in the laboratory. He is committed to fostering an inclusive learning environment where students are challenged, supported, and inspired to become the next generation of scientists.
