The mission of the biology program is to provide students with a strong foundation in the life sciences, so they can achieve careers in biotechnology, clinical laboratories, research and development, and health-related professions. The program will also prepare them for continuing education in medical school and graduate programs in the sciences. The coursework is designed to be rigorous and provide hands-on laboratory experiences as well as connected learning experiences to prepare students for the workforce.
Students will learn and engage with concepts in molecular biology, microbiology, genetics, plant biology, and other scientific disciplines to gain a sold understanding of the complexity of life on earth. Their laboratory work and field experiences reinforce classroom learning while developing scientific reasoning, communication, and problem-solving skills. A semester-long internship experience provides professional interaction and training in a student’s chosen area of career focus.
The biology program embraces Lasell’s overall commitment to connected learning. Students who enroll in the program will also take courses in the Core Curriculum’s knowledge perspectives including creativity and aesthetics, scientific inquiry and problem-solving, global and historical perspectives, ethical reasoning, and individuals and society. These experiences are designed to promote curiosity, professionalism, and ethical understanding, preparing our program graduates to make meaningful contributions in science and society.
