Program Mission Statement

The goal of the Biochemistry Program at Lasell University is to provide students with a strong foundational understanding of the chemistry of life and the molecular foundations of biology so they can obtain careers in biotechnology, clinical laboratories, research and development, and health-related professions. The program will also prepare them for continuing education in medical school and graduate programs in the sciences. The coursework is designed to be rigorous and provide hands-on laboratory experiences as well as connected learning experiences to prepare students for the workforce.

Students will take courses from a wide range of science and mathematics disciplines, including organic chemistry, genetics, physical chemistry, molecular biology, and biochemistry. Their laboratory work and field experiences reinforce classroom learning while helping students develop scientific reasoning, communication, and problem-solving skills. A semester-long internship experience provides professional interaction and training in a student’s chosen area of career focus.

The biochemistry program embraces Lasell’s overall commitment to connected learning. Students who enroll in the program will also take courses in the Core Curriculum’s knowledge perspectives including creativity and aesthetics, scientific inquiry and problem-solving, global and historical perspectives, ethical reasoning, and individuals and society. These experiences are designed to promote curiosity, professionalism, and ethical understanding, preparing our program graduates to make meaningful contributions in science and society.
