Internship Spotlight
Spotlight: Intern Alice O'Connor '17
Major: Exercise Science, minor in Coaching Internship: Livingstone Speed Academy
Tell us about your responsibilities: As an intern at the Livingstone Speed Academy, I implement and observe strength, speed, agility, mobility, and coordination programs for athletes ages 8-22 in the weight room as well as on the field. When I arrive I help to clean up the weight room or set up the field for the day's workouts.
What has been your favorite part of being an intern? My favorite part of my internship is being able to learn new approaches to exercises and learning why they would be used for certain athletes versus others. Also I love the laid back atmosphere, because it makes me more comfortable asking questions about everything and anything.
How did your courses at Lasell relate to your internship? Courses at Lasell that relate to my internship were professional interactions, anatomy and physiology, physics, kinesiology, personal training, and resistance training. Anatomy and physiology gave me the basic knowledge of the body and physics and kinesiology furthered that knowledge to understand how and why the body moves the way it does and how to manipulate movements. Professional interactions prepared me for the real world and how to deal with clients as well as bosses. Finally personal training and resistance training gave me the knowledge of how to build an effective program for different athlete’s goals, as well as the proper form and technique for Olympic lifts.
