Biography:

Dr. James Hamilton is an Assistant Professor of Forensic Science whose research centers on the intra-variability of breech face impressions on fired cartridge cases, with particular emphasis on variations caused by differences in chamber pressure. His other research interests include the use of computer-based algorithms for comparing breech face impressions, as well as the application of computer-aided design (CAD) and finite element analysis (FEA) software to shooting incident reconstruction. During his postdoctoral work, Dr. Hamilton investigated the prevalence and persistence of subclass characteristics on firearm breech faces, examining how susceptible various manufacturing and finishing methods are to the formation and degradation of subclass.
