Placing Course Reserves

This page is intended for Lasell faculty. If you are a student interested in accessing items on reserve, see our page on Using Course Reserves.

Lasell faculty may request to have items placed on reserve. Reserve materials circulate for two hours and cannot leave the library.

What can be placed on reserve?

Books and DVDs owned by Brennan Library can be placed on reserve, as can professors’ personal copies of books or other items. Materials borrowed from other libraries cannot go on reserve.

Can the library buy my textbook?

The library does not generally purchase textbooks. We suggest contacting the publisher to request a “desk copy,” which you can place on reserve as your personal copy of the book.

How do I place something on reserve?

To place an item owned by the library on reserve, please fill out the reserves request form.

To place a personal copy of an item on reserve, please bring your item to the library. A printable “add to reserves” form for personal items is available online, or at the library circulation desk.

How do I remove something from reserve?

To remove items from reserve, please fill out the reserves withdrawal form. Library staff will contact you to pick up any personal materials that were on reserve.

What happens at the end of the semester?

  • We will remove all reserve items to make way for reserves for the next semester. If your course runs for a full year, make sure to indicate this on your reserves submission form.
  • When a personal copy has been removed from reserve, it will be placed on the hold shelf behind the circulation desk and you will be notified by email that it is available to be picked up.
  • If a personal item is not picked up within 1 week of being notified, the item will be mailed to your office or department via inter-department mail.
  • If a removal request is made for a personal item in person at the library, it can be picked up at that time as long as the sticker and barcode are removed.

How do I see what I have available on reserve?

You can search the catalog for your course reserve by:

  • Instructor's last name
  • Title
  • Author

If the reserve item is not there, it could still be in processing. Please email us at library@lasell.edu.

Can I find out how many times my reserve was checked out?

Yes, we can check the number of times a reserve item has been checked out until it has been removed from our system, which occurs no earlier than six months following its removal from reserves.

Course reserves policy

Each semester, the library will place course materials on reserve, at the request of the instructor. These materials can include items owned by Brennan Library, or by the instructor.

The library cannot place materials from other libraries, loose papers, or photocopies on reserve. If you are interested in making magazine or journal articles or items you had photocopied available to your students, please contact the Teaching and Learning Center to ask about adding course materials to your Canvas page.

  • Reserve materials are housed behind the circulation desk arranged in alphabetical order by instructor's last name.
  • Materials will circulate for two hours at a time and may not leave the library.
  • Brennan Library is not responsible for loss, theft, or damage to personal items placed on reserve.
