About Kyo Yamawaki

Kyo Yamawaki is a Japanese educator and author of picture books. Her association with Lasell began through Yamawaki Gakuen Junior College, Lasell's sister college in Tokyo. Her husband, Minoru, was chairman of the college, which was founded by his great-grandmother. Later, Kyo Yamawaki herself became the school's president. The Yamawaki family largely funded construction of the Yamawaki Art and Cultural Center, one of Lasell's main academic buildings.

Ms. Yamawaki began an endowment to fund the Kyo Yamawaki Education Library with the goal of supporting Lasell's education students, and the Education Library opened in 1988. Today, the Education Collection and Winslow Archives both contain copies of several of her books in Japanese.
