Program Director and Assistant Professor of Forensic Science

The School of Health Science seeks a Program Director and Assistant Professor of Forensic Science for a 2023-2024 appointment. 

The School of Health Sciences at Lasell University in Newton, Massachusetts seeks a highly motivated, entrepreneurial, and collaborative individual to assume the responsibilities of Program Director for an undergraduate FEPAC accredited Forensic Science Program. This is a full-time, non-tenure-track, 9-month appointment to begin immediately reporting to the Assistant Provost of the School of Health Science.  

The successful candidate will join our growing undergraduate and graduate academic programs in the dynamic School of Health Sciences, established in 2018. More senior rank will be considered based on experience and other credentials.

 

Our recently opened state-of-the-art Science and Technology Center offers specialized laboratories, with commercial grade instrumentation, including 4 science labs, exercise physiology lab, strength and conditioning lab, computer lab, multipurpose classrooms, 29 faculty offices, stockrooms, and specialized study rooms.  

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Responsibilities include specific program-related functions (e.g., accreditation, placement testing, external reporting), create, maintain, and engage advisory boards as well as teaching courses in forensic science. 
  • The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence and enthusiasm in teaching and student advocacy; commitment to productivity and professional development; and active participation in school and college service that includes but is not limited to faculty standing committee work and academic advising. 
  • Teaching responsibilities include forensic science courses and additional teaching assignments where expertise aligns with program needs. The ideal candidate should be highly experienced and skilled in undergraduate curriculum development what aligns with FEPAC accreditation standards. Course development will include didactic and laboratory instruction and assessment in forensic science and areas of disciplinary expertise.  Successful candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence, serving as a champion for forensic science program through positive interaction with prospective students and the public.  
  • Student mentoring, academic advising at the undergraduate level, and new course development to support the dynamic and growing area is required. Candidates should have strong communication and interpersonal skills and a commitment to collegiality and teamwork. Our growing undergraduate and graduate programs are looking to enhance and diversify offerings. The successful candidate will have the ability to work both within and beyond program specific needs to shape the on-going development of the curricula offered within the School of Health Sciences.  
  • Successful candidates will demonstrate an avid interest in utilizing a project-focused approach to teaching, supporting the University’s educational philosophy, Connected Learning. Faculty in all disciplines at Lasell may have the opportunity to teach in our Honors Program as well as the Core Curriculum.

Qualifications:  

  • PhD in forensic science, biology, chemistry or a related field. 
  • Prior college teaching experience preferred.
  • Professional experience in forensic science analysis with a reputable crime laboratory and experience with a program accredited by the AAFS Forensic Science Education Programs
  • Accreditation Committee (FEPAC) is strongly preferred
  • Proven ability to attract and retain new students 
  • Ability to teach upper-level science courses
  • Ability to serve as a capstone research advisor for undergraduate students
