Adjunct Faculty - Surgical Technology

The Surgical Technology Program at Lasell University seeks an adjunct faculty member for SURG 101 for the following on-campus course offered on the UMass Memorial Hospital Site in Summer Session II (classes run July 9 – August 29, 2024). The three position choices are based on the level of time that you can commit to teaching. This is an 8-week accelerated course and requires you to be in each class for the position you choose. The lecture and lab will be held on UMass Memorial Hopistal Main Campus. We are also looking to fill these positions for the Fall Session II and the dates of those classes would be October 29 – December 19, 2024.

RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES:

  • Provide on-campus instruction to teach students the basic skills of surgical technology, including sterility and sterile conscience, gowning, gloving, table set-up, basic draping, and basic concepts of surgical procedures.
  • Deliver lecture material via PowerPoint presentations that will be provided with notes for guidance and extra information for the lectures not on the PowerPoints.
  • Must maintain grades for homework, tests, and quizzes on canvas(Lasell’s learning platform)
  • Responsible for attending each class to observe and teach the skills necessary for the students to be prepared to be in the operating room for clinicals.
  • Maintain and administer daily skills check-off for each student
  • Partner with another instructor to conduct the lecture and skills lab which will have 10 students.
  • Provide constructive and in real time feedback to students during the lab.
  • Work collaboratively with the Surgical Technology Program Director and other SURG instructors on course content requirements and methods of delivery

QUALIFICATIONS:

Must be a current and certified surgical technologist that graduated from an accredited certificate or associates surgical technology program. Teaching experience in the operating room or in another capacity is also required.

Bachelor’s degree preferred
