Biography:
Allison Butterfield is currently finishing her Ph.D. in the School of Criminology and Justice Studies at the University of Massachusetts, Lowell. Her dissertation focuses on education and training in substance use disorders among probation officers. Prior to entering academia, Allison worked as a juvenile probation officer in Portland, Oregon for nearly 8 years. She was also a licensed chemical dependency counselor in outpatient treatment programs for adults, and she facilitated girls’ treatment groups in the county juvenile drug court. Allison also worked for the state of Oregon as an alcohol and drug evaluation specialist for offenders. In 2009, Allison moved to Massachusetts, where she soon received her state licensure as a social worker. She continued her work for two years as a clinician in a methadone clinic before deciding to pursue her doctorate. Allison has taught multiple courses in criminal justice, psychology, and sociology at several institutions over the past 11 years. Her areas of interest include community corrections, restorative justice, juvenile justice and delinquency, and substance use among offenders. She currently serves as an area representative for the American Probation and Parole Association.
