Donnell Turner is a certified Designing Your Life (DYL) coach and Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) with more than 15 years of experience in spearheading career education initiatives, cultivating employer partnerships, and providing strategic direction for students as they navigate career possibilities. His DYL certification comes into play every day at Lasell, where students explore design thinking as a way to successfully navigate the transition from college to the working world. Donnell’s career has exposed him to both sides of the job search, first as a recruiter and then as a higher education career professional. He has a master’s degree in educational ministries and a bachelor’s degree in education, both from Wheaton College.

What you might not know about me is:
I’m an unapologetic introvert who nevertheless loves meeting with students.

What I love most about my job:
I love seeing when a student has an “Aha!” moment and is actually able to connect the dots on an idea.

My favorite quote is:
“One of the greatest paradoxes of human development is that we are required to make crucial choices, especially about careers and work before we have the knowledge, judgment, and self-understanding to choose wisely.” Psychologist Daniel Levinson said this, and what it really means is that we as a society ask students to make decisions about their major, their future, and their career without giving them the opportunity to really explore all of the wonderful experiences that exist out there. So, my goal is to help you figure out how to make sense of all that you will experience at Lasell University, and become what we call “Career Ready.”

Jessica Orlando is passionate about driving positive student outcomes post-graduation, and about helping students explore career options. At Lasell, she runs career workshops and trainings, job and internship fairs, skill shares, and networking events — and to help students put their skills into action, she cultivates relationships with employers and fosters campus recruitment opportunities. Jessica has a master’s degree in school counseling from Assumption College and a bachelor’s degree in psychology from UMass Amherst.

What you might not know about me is:
When I’m not working, you will most likely find me at a local train station with my son, who is in the midst of a train craze. It’s always a big day when we get a bell ring or horn beep!

What I love most about my job:
I love working with students starting in their first year and watching them find majors and career paths they’re passionate about over the years. I especially love when they come back to fill me in on success stories when they get the internship or job that we’ve talked so much about and prepared for.

My favorite interview question to ask:
I love to incorporate this question into mock interviews with students: “What is the theme song to your life?”
