Admissions

Jonah Cattaneo '26

My internship and classroom experiences have sharpened my technical skills, taught me how to ask the right questions, and prepared me for a career in data analytics.

Why did you choose Lasell?

I chose Lasell because of its great location close to Boston where I could take advantage of all of the opportunities there. Lasell's also a small close community – there's a great ratio of professors to students.

Why did you choose to major in Data Analytics?

I majored in Data Analytics because I was always good with computers and math growing up and wanted to combine those two interests. My experience in the Data Analytics program has been super rewarding and hands-on.

How do your professors support you?

All of them know my name and where I'm from (Montpelier, Vermont). They're always open to helping and around – whether that’s office hours or seeing them around campus.

What kind of hands-on learning have you experienced in the program?

I've had a lot of hands-on opportunities here at Lasell. I’ve recently used catapult vests. Lasell athletes wear them during practices and during games, and it collects metrics and live athlete performance data that are uploaded to Tableau where you can then make interactive graphs and visualizations and then send to the coach to give them insights into how athletes are performing.

How has this technology helped you gain experience in your career?

Working with the catapult vest has been great because it's a very unique experience. Not a lot of colleges give students the ability to work with the vest and work with the coaches. Often data analytics majors only work with pre-set data sets - working with real-life data in real time is amazing.

What activities and athletics are you involved in?

I'm on the basketball team. I'm also as an RA, which gives me a chance to connect one-on-one with residents and build a real sense of community on campus.

Have you done any internships?

Yes, I interned at a National Life Group in Montpelier, Vermont where I'm a data analytics intern where I’ve expanded my expertise in SQL, Alteryx, and Tableau while giving me a front-row seat to how data drives business decisions. This experience and my classroom experiences have sharpened my technical skills, taught me how to ask the right questions, and prepared me for a career in data analytics.

You mentioned Lasell’s location near Boston. What do you like to do in Boston?

My friends and I like to take the T into Boston and go to Red Sox games or to walk around the city.
