Why did you choose Lasell?
I am from Rhode Island, and I wanted to remain fairly local when choosing a college, but this became challenging because Forensic Science majors are limited in New England. Lasell is the only accredited undergraduate forensic program in Massachusetts, and that was a major pro for me. Lasell became my first choice as soon as I toured. When I discovered Lasell, I immediately fell in love with the campus and the atmosphere. It was the first college I toured, but every other school I visited could not live up to the expectations that Lasell set for me.
What clubs, athletics, organizations are you been involved in?
I joined theForensic Science Association in the Fall of my freshman year. In my time there, I have been able to make connections with other people in my degree program as well as with others outside of the Lasell community, which has been a great networking opportunity.
What internship have you done?
I had the amazing opportunity to intern at the Woonsocket Police Department's Bureau of Criminal Investigation Unit in Woonsocket, Rhode Island. It was here that I contributed to active investigations by assisting in evidence handling and processing. This included firearm test files, DNA swabs, and crime scenes. I also conducted support tasks, such as reviewing case files, redacting classified records, and documenting trial proceedings, thus enhancing case organization. I also processed and managed court-ordered expungements, ensuring compliance with legal requirements.
This internship was so eye-opening, and having these hands-on opportunities allowed me to fully grasp my love of Forensic Science.
How has your academic program or professors helped prepare you for your future career?
The Forensic Science program here at Lasell has made me feel really confident about my future career. The professors here really want you to succeed, and you can see that in their teaching. They take the time to ensure our understanding and encourage us to further our knowledge and put ourselves out there.
What are your favorite activities to do on or off campus?
In my free time, you will almost always find me cooking or crocheting. I'm a crafty person, and I like to use my creative outlets as much as possible. I think it is important to decompress and do something I enjoy when I am not occupied with my studies.
