Lasell Sport Management Students Take the Field at Fenway Park

Sport Management Students at Fenway

When 23 Lasell University students walked through the gates of Fenway Park on April 28, they weren't there to watch a game - they were there to make a pitch.

As part of a project-based learning initiative embedded in SMGT301, a sport management course taught by Young Kim, Ph.D., students spent the Spring 2026 semester developing original event concepts for Fenway Park on non-game days. Their goal was to create innovative programming that could drive revenue and deepen fan engagement at America’s Most Beloved Ballpark.

The collaboration was made possible through a Lasell alumni connection. Colin Terhune, a Lasell graduate now serving as an Associate on the Red Sox Special Events team, spearheaded the partnership.

Divided into six groups, students developed proposals spanning a wide range of sporting and non-sporting events. Each concept underwent internal review and feedback sessions with Department Chair Libby O'Hara before the teams presented at Fenway.

Students delivered their final pitches to a panel of Red Sox professionals, including Brett Miller, Senior Director of Special Events; Kristina Hudak, Senior Manager of Special Events; Zac Fadullon, Manager of Special Events; and Colin Terhune. Also in attendance was Michael Gunning, Director of Event Security and Operations, another proud Lasell alumnus.

Students gained firsthand insight into the operational realities of large-scale event management, including the legal and insurance considerations that shape decisions at a venue of Fenway's scale.

This incredible opportunity reflects Lasell's commitment to connected learning, preparing students for life after graduation.
