Lasell Introduces New Graduate Certificate in Soccer Science & Performance Coaching

September 25, 2025

Lasell University is excited to announce a new graduate certificate in Soccer Science & Performance Coaching, a fully online program designed to bridge the gap between coaching practice and sport science. Developed in partnership with the International Soccer Science & Performance Federation (ISSPF), this program provides rigorous academic training along with applied skills in areas such as biomechanics, nutrition, injury prevention, mental skills training, strength & conditioning, and performance analytics.

The certificate is structured into four specialized modules—Nutrition for Soccer Performance; Coaching & Mental Skills Training; Strength & Conditioning; and Science & Performance Analysis—each worth 3 credits. A culminating independent research project allows students to explore one of several key areas in soccer science and performance, such as training load management, game model integration, racial & technical assessment, or mental resilience. The full program is 12 credits in total and is designed to be completed within a year.

This program is ideal for current or aspiring coaches at all levels, athletic trainers, sport scientists, and others in sports performance who want to deepen their skillset with evidence-based, soccer-specific strategies. Whether coaching youth, collegiate or semi-professional players—or serving in roles related to strength and conditioning, performance analysis, or sport science—graduates will be equipped to translate cutting-edge research into high-impact practice.

With soccer’s already growing popularity in the U.S., especially ahead of the 2026 FIFA World Cup, demand is rising for coaches who can combine data-driven methods with hands-on leadership. The new certificate helps meet that need.
