ComArts and Fashion Awards

Students and faculty in Lasell University’s School Fashion and Communications and the Arts are receiving national recognition this spring semester, earning prestigious awards across journalism, design, media production, and business competitions.

Student publication Polished Magazine once again was honored with a Silver Crown Award from the Columbia Scholastic Press Association, one of the highest distinctions in collegiate journalism. The organization also recognized several individual Lasell students in its Gold Circle Awards: Graphic Design alum Erin Tilley ’25 earned third place and a certificate of merit for her work in Tarnished Magazine, while Fashion Media and Marketing major Eva Parker received a certificate of merit in the Photography Portfolio category.

Lasell students also stood out in the design and theater space. Graphic Design major Mackenzie Transue received the Randy Lutz Allied Design and Technologies Award for the second consecutive year at the American College Theater Festival, held at Lincoln Center. As a result of this achievement, she was invited to attend the national conference of United States Institute for Theatre Technology (USITT), also known as Powering Live Entertainment, in Long Beach, California.

In broadcast and media production, Lasell was recognized with three awards at the national conference hosted by the Intercollegiate Broadcasting System. Professor Brian Wardyga was named College TV Faculty Advisor of the Year, while students Julio Vasquez and Jill Webly earned honors for Best Sports Director and Best Use of Sound Effects, respectively.

Under the guidance of Professor Cathy Weiss, eight students competed at a qualifying event hosted by DECA Inc. at Stonehill College, where all participants earned medals. Victoria Grosfeld placed third overall in the Sales competition, alongside fellow competitors Olivia Sousa, Stella Wosencraft, Morgan Healy, Alena Dantonio, Barbara Monahan, and Jasmine Sanchez.

“These accomplishments reflect the creativity, professionalism, and dedication of our students and faculty,” said Assistant Provost, Ken Calhoun. “Their success on national stages demonstrates the true value of a Lasell education and its emphasis on hands-on, connected learning.”

The breadth of awards highlights Lasell’s continued impact across creative industries, media, and fashion - preparing students to excel post-graduation in real-world environments.
