Undergraduate Admission

Ann Mary Girgis

Hometown: Haverhill, MA

Major: Double major in Finance and Marketing

Why did you choose your major at Lasell?
My class on management information systems exposed me to how technology is shaping business, especially in the best interests of marketing advances. I figured if this is the future, I wanted to be a part of it.

What brought you to Lasell?
I had toured several schools in NYC and was set to move there, but then I came to Lasell and learned of their connected learning philosophy, as well as Lasell Works. Lasell stood out to me as a school that went above and beyond to create professionals and that's what attracted me.

Why did you chose the Lasell Works Program?
Lasell Works is the answer to the two largest burdens that I will face after college: debt and employment. Through this program, I am getting an entire year of work experience, while taking the necessary courses toward my major online, all at a declining tuition rate. I am confident that I will be a formidable contender in the job market because of the experience I am getting so early in my academic career. I sought out for a college that would invest in me as a student and a professional, and I am blessed to have found that in the Lasell Works program.

What activities are you involved in or have been involved in (clubs, activities, athletics, etc.)?
During my first two semesters, I have been involved with the Public Relations Alliance (PRA) and spring semester I joined the Student Alumni Association.

Favorite class you have taken at Lasell and why?
Entrepreneurship with Professor McKinnon was one of my favorites because of his method of teaching business in "real time" as opposed to a textbook-based approach. I also really enjoyed Rural Urban Dynamics with Professor Frey; the class challenges students to analyze and think critically about history and synthesize it to the present day.

What do you like to do off campus or in Boston?
Every chance I get, I'm in Boston; I gravitate towards the art museums there and take pleasure in attending different festivities on the Common or in other parts of Boston that I would not have otherwise been a part of.

Do you have an interesting story or great memory from Lasell that you would be willing to share?
In February, I had the opportunity of attending the PRSSA conference and BU, where I met so many distinguished people who were successful in the communications industry. It felt empowering to be with a group of individuals who have common interests and ambitions.
