Matthew Kinzer '27

I chose Lasell because of the strong Exercise Science program and the hands-on opportunities like internships that let you apply what you've learned in the real world.

Why did you choose Lasell?

I chose Lasell because of the strong exercise science program and the hands-on opportunity like internships then let you apply what you’ve learned to real life.

What clubs, athletics, organizations are you  involved in?

I was a member of the Lasell baseball team before stepping away due to injury.

Have you done an internship? What were your responsibilities?

This spring I’ve been interning at Flight Performance & Fitness, a performance facility where the focus is on individualized strength and conditioning programs for athletes and general population clients.

My main responsibilities include coaching clients their workouts, giving feedback on exercise technique, and helping running sessions. I have also recently started running the youth sessions throughout the week where we focus on speed, agility, and strength development.

What did you learn? How did the internship relate to what you are doing in your classes or your career goals?

I’ve learned a lot through this internship so far. How to communicate with clients, adjust client’s needs/form on the spot, and getting a better understanding of human movement. This internship directly relates to my career goals of becoming a strength and conditioning coach an eventually opening my own facility.

How has your academic program or professors helped prepare you for your future career?

The program has given me a strong foundation in biomechanics, physiology, and training principles, while also giving me access to advanced equipment like force plates, dynamometers, and other force measurement tools. Being able to use this technology has helped me better understand performance data and apply it in a practical/internship setting. My professors also talk about real-world application, which has helped me feel more confident in a coaching environment.

What are your Lasell traditions or favorite activities to do on or off campus?

I enjoy being in the weight room, training, and continuing to learn more about performance, and strength and conditioning. I also like spending time with friends on campus and staying involved in the athletic environment.
