Why did you choose Lasell?
The learning environment with the professors - I'm very grateful for the professors who have reached out and just offered extra help. They saw that I was working hard and making an effort so they gave that back to me. And that's something I'm very grateful for.
You’re an active member of DECA. What is DECA?
DECA stands for Distributive Education Clubs of America. And it's a very immersive program allowing students to travel around the country and meet other like-minded individuals to get hands-on experience in business. In DECA, we work on different mock sales pitches, present case studies, and just work with others in a professional setting.
This spring I went to San Francisco for ICDC, the International Career Development Conference. I participated in a professional sales event where I competed among 1300 other students. I was fortunate enough to place in the Top 10 for my Professional Sales case study. In my sales pitch, I was representing the Boston Red Sox in a mock situation. I was proposing the use of Fenway Park for an event space.
How has DECA at Lasell helped prepare your career in the sports management field?
Working with DECA has prepared me immensely for what's ahead. I've had a lot of different experiences talking in professional settings, whether that be an interview or a sales pitch. It’s really exposed me to the business world.
How have your how has your Sport Management degree prepared you for your career?
The professors have a real drive to help students. I’ve learned a lot about connecting with people - that's a big thing in sport management, networking and putting yourself out there to talk to other people. And I’ve gotten lot of hands-on experience in class, learning about the ins and outs of the sports world and what may be ahead.
