The Writing Program is central to the student experience at Lasell University. No matter what major a student chooses, the critical skills developed through writing will be important to their academic and career goals. We guide students in the cultivation of the critical thinking, composition, and rhetorical skills they will need to navigate information, language, and argument in the modern digital world.

Our work begins in the First-Year Writing Program with a two-course sequence designed to help students think through the ways they use writing and explore the important technologies, strategies, and concepts that will be an integral part of their professional lives. In the years that follow, the Writing Across the Curriculum (WAC) program collaborates with faculty to design writing intensive courses in the majors, providing students opportunities to engage in writing practices essential to their disciplines.

Beyond these experiences, the Writing Program organizes activities throughout campus to foster a culture of writing among the entire Lasell community. These activities include publishing our journal of student writing Fresh Thoughts, celebrating the National Day on Writing, coordinating end of semester Write Night activities, and hosting our annual Diane M. Donatio and Ruth Braun Writing Contests.
