The Bruno Brothers

Raymond '22 and Anthony '24

Student Profile

Brothers Anthony and Raymond Bruno are constantly trying to one-up each other. Ray is a licensed FAA drone pilot. Anthony is a licensed realtor. Ray works for Babson College Athletics, Lasell University Athletics, and Peabody TV; Anthony closed the largest rental deal in his company’s history at just 20 years old. Ray is two years older; Anthony is four inches taller. Their not-so-subtle banter (“Try and top that, Ray!” “Is it my turn to talk yet?”) hints at a uniting theme — both are motivated, strategic, and clearly one another’s biggest supporters. Though both are sport management majors at Lasell, their paths at the University are as differently charismatic as they are.

Tell me about yourselves.

RB: I’m president of the Sport Management Association, double minoring in fitness and coaching, and am also in the honors program. Last year, I was inducted into the COSMA Chi Sigma honor society.

AB: I have a full-size slushie machine in my dorm room.

Impressive. What got each of you started on your professional licensures?

AB: Our parents told us that college might not be for everyone, so they provided us with alternative career opportunities. Now, we’re doing both our work at Lasell and on the side. I got my real estate license in high school; when all of my friends were studying for the SATs, I was studying real estate.

RB: We were always told to give things a try. It’s why I became a drone pilot and work for so many different sports teams. It’s an experience, so why not?

"If a professor has had one of us in their class, they know immediately what they will get when the other one signs up."

What interests you about sport management?

RB: We were both bat boys for the Wareham Gatemen baseball team on Cape Cod and played sports as kids. When I started college, I worked for the Pawtucket (now Worcester) Red Sox and joined the  game day staff here at Lasell. At Lasell, I’ve gone from a ball boy to running drone videos and photography for lacrosse and soccer. I want to work in collegiate athletics, so I’m staying at Lasell to get my master’s degree in athletic administration.

AB: I was on the men’s basketball team last year and now I represent Lasell as Boomer [the University’s mascot]. We both are really grateful for our professors: Sara Large, Dan Sargeant, and Janice Savitz; plus, our writing tutor, Paula Panchuck; Kristy Walter, director of athletics; and the Academic Achievement Center staff.

Did you ever think you'd wind up at the same college?

AB: When Ray was admitted, I thought there was no way I’d go to Lasell.

RB: I never thought he’d come here.

AB: I came here because of basketball, but I also served as first-year class president and am a member of the student government. And now as a realtor, I have the flexibility of being able to go to class ande then drive in and out of Boston to show apartments.

And now that you’re both here?

AB: It’s a lot of fun. Some people know me as Ray’s brother, but that’s also a good thing.

RB: If a professor has had one of us in their class, they know immediately what they will get when the other one signs up.

AB: They know we work hard and take things seriously. Our parents sacrificed a lot for us in terms of our education, so we don’t take it for granted.
