Remembering Kenneth Greene

Former Lasell President Kenneth Greene

Kenneth Greene, who served as president of Lasell Junior College from 1970 to 1975, died on December 16, 2021, at his home in Falls Church, Virginia. He was 101.

Greene arrived at Lasell after 23 years at Simmons College, where he served as director of the school of education and taught English. During his tenure at Lasell, Greene enhanced the administrative organization of the college and launched a comprehensive fundraising campaign to increase the endowment and fund scholarships for students. Greene left Lasell to lead the national office of the Phi Beta Kappa honor society. He retired in 1989.

A U.S. Army veteran of World War II, he was twice wounded in combat and was awarded the Croix de Guerre, the Silver Star, the Bronze Star, the Combat Infantryman Badge, and the Purple Heart with oak leaf cluster. He earned his bachelor’s degree from Brown University in 1942 and his master’s and doctorate from Columbia University.
