Remembering Sue Pegues Spadaccia '68
A Life of Learning, Teaching, and Giving

Sue Pegues Spadaccia ’68 often spoke about the profound impact her two years at Lasell had on her life.

“When I arrived at Lasell, I wasn’t sure what I wanted to do and where I wanted to go,” she recalled in an interview a few years ago. “Lasell gave me wings, taught me to fly, and away I went.”

Sue passed away on April 20 at the age of 76 in North Carolina. Her legacy continues at Lasell through her generosity and her deep belief in the power of education. In honor of her 50th Reunion, Sue and her husband, Bob, established an endowed scholarship—renamed the Susan Pegues Spadaccia ’68 Memorial Scholarship upon her passing—to support education majors preparing for careers in the classroom.

Spadaccia Scholar Nicole Hassett ’22 G’23 once reflected: “Sue and I share a lot in common—Lasell gave us our wings! I am so pleased to continue her legacy at Lasell and into the classroom.” Nicole is currently in her fourth year as a special-education teacher in Leominster, Massachusetts.

After graduating from Lasell, Sue earned her bachelor’s and master’s degrees from Ohio State University and went on to a long, fulfilling career as an elementary school teacher in suburban Washington, D.C. Known for her warmth, dedication, and ability to inspire, she touched the lives of countless students and families.

At Lasell, Sue and Bob also supported the Brennan Library laptop loaner program and summer internship stipends, helping ensure all students have the opportunity to flourish at Lasell and after graduation.

Remembered by her close friend Heather Heath Reed ’68 as “the epitome of joy, light, and laughter,” Sue leaves behind a legacy of learning, teaching, and giving that continues to uplift Lasell students today.

Remembering Harriet "Honey" Markham Wedeman '48 H'10

Honey, who established the Wedeman Art Gallery with her husband, Duane, and generously supported Lasell students for decades, died on January 31 in Honolulu. She was 96.

Dedicated in 2002 as part of Lasell’s 150th anniversary fundraising campaign, the Harriet “Honey” Markham Wedeman ’48 and Duane “Joe” Wedeman Gallery features two floors to display personal or group artwork, professional lighting, wall hangings, and space for exhibition opening receptions.

“For nearly a quarter-century, the Wedeman Gallery has served as the artistic and cultural hub of our campus,” said Vladimir Zimakov, the Diane Heath Beever ’49 Professor of Art and director of the Wedeman Gallery. “Our community and students have been able to discover works by amazing artists, explore art techniques, and, above all, gain inspiration for their own artistic creations.”

The Wedemans also provided financial aid to Lasell students through an endowed scholarship they established, and made annual gifts to the Lasell Fund.

A former member of the Board of Overseers, Honey received an honorary degree from the University in 2010 and was awarded the Lasell Medallion for distinguished service in 2013.

Remembering Jo-Ann Vojir Massey '51

Jo-Ann, a loyal alumna, generous donor, and longtime member of the Board of Overseers, passed away on April 12 in Wyckoff, New Jersey, at age 93.

Together with her husband of 71 years, Dwight, who also served on Lasell’s Board of Trustees, Jo-Ann made a lasting impact on the University. Together, they endowed the Jo-Ann Vojir Massey ’51 and Anna A. Vojir Scholarship and supported the In Pursuit of Great campaign, helping to enrich the student experience for generations to come. In 2006, Jo-Ann received the Lasell Medallion in recognition of her extraordinary service.

Jo-Ann studied retail at Lasell and worked in the field before marrying Dwight and beginning a life filled with adventure, family, and service. A lifelong learner, she cherished the arts, travel, and time spent abroad in London, and remained active in her church and community in New Jersey.

Her legacy endures through the students supported by her scholarship and through her remarkable loyalty and generosity to Lasell.

Remembering Jacqueline "Jackie" Paulding Hauser '50

Jackie, who died on May 12 in Marshfield, Massachusetts, at the age of 94, was an active volunteer and generous supporter of Lasell. She served on the Alumni Board of Management for 25 years, including two as president. A certified floral designer and master judge for flower shows, she provided the roses displayed at Commencement for many years.

Jackie gave annually to the Lasell Fund, which supports student scholarships, academic programs, and extracurricular activities. She was also a member of the Heritage Society for including Lasell in her will.

“Lasell prepared me to go out into the world,” she said in 2019 of her support of the University. “I feel so fortunate to have attended.”

She received the Lasell Medallion for distinguished service in 1995 and the Lasell Chair for leadership in 2002.

Jackie studied to be a medical secretary and spent more than a decade working in the field before starting a family.
