Finance

Finance is the study of the assets of corporations and/or individuals. Students learn to understand what is involved in obtaining corporate financing and managing financial risk. Areas of study include financial instruments, institutions, and markets associated with business. Finance students develop a wide array of analytical skills, attain a thorough understanding of the finance function in various organizations, and sharpen their awareness of how financial institutions and markets function in a global environment. Graduates receive a Bachelor of Science degree in Finance from the Accounting and Finance Department.

The Finance Major has three areas of concentration.

Corporate Finance Concentration

Corporate Finance Concentration trains students for a challenging career in money management and to make business financial decisions to maximize the value of the firm. In addition to raising and investing capital, firm mangers must deal with a  number of stakeholders including stockholders, lenders, customers, and regulators. It is for students who are interested in careers In Financial Analysis, Security Analysis and Banking, Investments, Management Consulting, and who also might be interested in obtaining the CFA (Chartered Financial Analyst) designation.

Financial Planning Concentration

Financial Planning Concentration designed to prepare is designed to prepare students to counsel individuals on personal financial matters that impact the family.  It is for students who are interested in careers as Financial Advisors, Investment Advisors, Insurance Advisors, Estate Planning Advisors, and who are also might be interested in obtaining the CFP (Certified Financial Planner) designation.

Risk Management and Insurance Concentration

Risk Management and Insurance Concentration prepares students for all aspects of the insurance industry. Insurance plays a special role in risk management for individuals and businesses. The skills taught in this major prepare students for careers as analytical staff members of major insurance companies, consultants, insurance agents or brokers, employee benefit specialists, and risk managers.Students gain critical knowledge to sit for Chartered Life Underwriter (CLU) and the Chartered Financial Consultant (ChFC) exams.

Lasell College Wins NEA Grant to Create Online Fashion Design Catalog  Thursday, May 2, 2013Lasell College President Michael B. Alexander announced today that the College is the recipient of a $20,000 2013 National Endowment for the Arts matching grant to assist in the creation of an online fashion design catalog. The Lasell grant proposal was one of 50 grants funded by the NEA in its Art Works Design category.
