Remembering Nancy Curtis Grellier '49

Nancy, a leader whose enduring generosity to Lasell was recognized when the turf field near Rockwell Hall was named in her honor, died on October 9, 2025, at her home in Sudbury, Massachusetts, at the age of 95.

To recognize a significant gift that Nancy and her husband, Bill, made in 2001, the field where the Lasell field hockey and men’s and women’s lacrosse teams now play was named Grellier Field. The field was re-dedicated in 2006 after they made a gift to install artificial turf.

At different times, Nancy was a member of the Board of Trustees, Board of Overseers, and Alumni Association Board of Management. She was co-chair of the Sesquicentennial Celebration Committee, and she and Bill also supported student scholarships and the Lasell Fund. Nancy received the Lasell Medallion and was inducted into the Lasell Athletic Hall of Fame in 2017.

As a Lasell student, “Curt” enjoyed competing in sports, including tennis, crew, hockey, basketball, and badminton. Nancy was active with Lasell’s Outing Club, Orphean Club, and Speaker’s Bureau. She earned her associate’s degree in merchandising.

Born on December 6, 1929, in White Plains, N.Y., she grew up in Old Greenwich, Connecticut. After graduating from Lasell Junior College, Nancy worked as a buyer at Grover Cronin in Waltham. She and her husband married in 1952. In 1957, they founded Want Advertiser publications, which remained in operation for 51 years and grew to employ 90 people.

Nancy was predeceased by her sister, Betsy Jane Curtis Winquist ’48.

Remembering Joan Howe Weber '51

Joan, an active, generous alumna who served enthusiastically on Lasell’s Board of Trustees and Board of Overseers for many years, died on December 5, 2025, in Lexington, Kentucky. She was 94.

Her commitment to Lasell will live on through the students who will be supported by the Joan Howe Weber ’51 Scholarship and the professors who will receive assistance through the Joan Howe Weber ’51 Faculty Advancement Fund. Both of her generous gifts were endowed and will therefore continue to support students and faculty in perpetuity. Additionally, Lasell’s popular computer lab in the Winslow Academic Center is named in her honor.

According to the mini-bio that accompanied her senior photo in The Lamp yearbook, Joan was active with the Orphean arts club. She was described as: “Sincere and sweet. Joan has a husky voice we all like to hear. … She’s always ready with a smile.”

Joan's greatest joy and legacy was her family—four children, 12 grandchildren, and 34 great-grandchildren—which she gathered every year for a reunion. She enjoyed traveling the world, doing aerobics, and taking regular walks. She read two newspapers a day and always had a novel beside her.
