When designing A Beautiful “D”isaster, the idea was to bring light to the traumatic events and mental health problems one has within their lives that those on the outside cannot physically see. Each garment was designed to symbolize and represent a symptom of mental health disorders and or scars left from traumatic experiences one has endured. The layering and structure of the pieces emphasizes the layers throughout one’s life, as distressing is the idea of stress throughout their life. The main objective of the collection was to style one’s sanity and showcase the beauty within oneself that they may find difficult to see. We are here to bring that to the outside. Dealing with my own mental health and watching those around me struggle, Ineeded to emphasize the idea throughout my collection that life is truly; A Beautiful “D”isaster.
