Undergraduate Student Health Insurance Plan

Lasell University has partnered with Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Massachusetts and University Health Plans to provide health insurance coverage for our undergraduate students. All students enrolled in at least 9 qualifying credits are required by Massachusetts State law to enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan (SHIP) or be covered by a health insurance plan with comparable coverage.

To ensure compliance with Massachusetts law, students who are registered for 9 or more credit hours are automatically billed for the SHIP. Read the details on the law here.

All undergraduate international students at Lasell University are automatically enrolled in the SHIP and do not need to take any action. Please contact University Health Plans at (833) 251-1714 if you are covered by a US employee health insurance plan that meets healthcare reform standards and is comparable to the SHIP and you believe you are eligible to waive.

ENROLLMENT FORM: Complete this form if you want to expedite your SHIP enrollment process to receive your BCBS ID card sooner.  If you do not complete this form, your information will not be added to the insurance plan system until after the add/drop period in September. The plan will still be effective as of August 15, 2022.

WAIVER FORM: If you are currently insured by a health insurance plan that provides you with comparable coverage to the SHIP then you may waive enrollment. However, please note the following:

• Not all plans provide comprehensive coverage in the Boston area such as out-of-state Medicaid plans, and certain HMOs and managed care plans. Be sure to check with your insurance company before waiving.
• Mass Health is accepted, but Mass Health Limited, Health Safety Net, Husky Healthcare, and Children's Medical Security Plans are not considered comparable to the Student Health Insurance Plan.
• If you are enrolled in MassHealth, as of Fall 2020 the MassHealth Premium Assistance Program is no longer being offered.  For more information, please click FAQs.
• If your comparable plan will end before 8/14/22, while you are in school, you must either enroll in the Student Health Insurance Plan within 60 days of your other plan's end date, or find comparable coverage elsewhere.
• To waive the Student Health Insurance Plan for the 2022-23 policy year, please click Waiver Form

Tuition Protection Plan

Should you be unable to complete classes for the semester, there may be circumstances where you are not eligible for a full refund of tuition and fees. At Lasell University we understand that this risk can be a potential financial hardship for many families. Therefore, it is important that the person financially responsible for paying your tuition reviews and understands the policy prior to you starting classes. Lasell University has partnered with GradGuard^TM to offer tuition insurance by Allianz Global Assistance.The Tuition Protection Plan protects the investment you have made in higher education by offering reimbursement if a student needs to leave school early for a covered illness, injury, psychological condition, or unforeseen crisis. 

Tuition insurance is completely optional. The agreement you enter into is with GradGuard, not with Lasell University. 

The Tuition Protection Plan can be helpful if a student must withdraw from school after classes begin. It can expand the scope of our current refund policy by offering reimbursement for tuition, housing and other fees no matter when during the semester the withdrawal takes place. 

It also includes Student Life Assistance: a 24-hour hotline to make sure students get the help they need in an emergency. For example, if a student is admitted to a hospital, Allianz Global Assistance can make travel arrangements for parents to visit and help him or her get back home after treatment.

Insurance must be purchased prior to first day of classes. Coverage extends through the end of that semester.

GradGuard Renters Insurance 

On university campuses, backpacks are often filled with thousands of dollars of electronics and text books. In addition, students will most likely be bringing expensive and valuable items to campus. An optional insurance program is available to help protect your personal property in the event that it is damaged or stolen. 

GradGuard Renters Insurance is a smart investment for university students and their families with its low annual rates. Renters Insurance provides protection if a student's personal belongings are stolen or damaged by a covered peril. Covered belongings including clothing, laptop computers, smart phones, bicycles, game consoles, textbooks, and other items.
