The Lasell University Board of Trustees has approved a reduction in the published price of tuition and standard room and board for the 2023-2024 academic year. The all-in cost for the upcoming academic year is $39,500: $26,000 for tuition and $13,500 for standard room and board. This new price represents a 33% reduction from the 2022-2023 published price.
This reduction provides an opportunity to better align our published price with the actual cost of attendance. For many students and their families, the college application process can be overwhelming. Some make decisions about the colleges they will apply to based solely on the published tuition price without a full understanding of the generous scholarship and financial aid packages that can make the cost of higher education more accessible.
Not at all. Lasell University will continue to invest in programs, partnerships, new initiatives, facilities, and other resources that enhance our students’ learning and living experiences and prepare them to enter the workforce. We will also continue to invest in our students. Lasell offers, and will continue to offer, scholarships to our students.
The University has implemented a number of measures to lower costs without affecting the quality of a Lasell education or diminishing the campus experience. These include the launch of the Lower Cost Models for Independent Colleges consortium (LCMC). Founded by President Alexander, the 135 participating colleges and universities work collaboratively to address the challenge of increasing expenses. In addition, Lasell has forged partnerships with area colleges with a focus on sharing resources and facilities and enhancing purchasing power.
Under this new pricing structure, no Lasell student will pay more than $39,500 in out-of-pocket costs during the 2023-2024 academic year for tuition, and the standard room and board rate. And as always, Lasell will continue to offer scholarship aid to our students. Those financial aid awards will be smaller than they have been in the past. As a result, some students will pay less than they do now, and others will pay approximately the same as they do now, with a small increase to help us keep up with inflation.
No Lasell student will pay more than $39,500 in out-of-pocket costs during the 2023-2024 academic year for tuition and room and board at the standard rate. Some students may pay more for supplemental room charges, course or program materials, health insurance premiums, or other incidental charges.
Not at all. The reduction does not in any way impact students who take part in Lasell’s work study program and campus employment opportunities.
No. Each student’s total cost is set individually, and depends upon numerous factors, including their academic profile, family income and assets, and any other sources of funding such as scholarship or fellowship programs. Lasell is reducing tuition and room and board so that the published price more accurately reflects what families actually pay after receiving all applicable financial aid awards.
Financial aid packages will be adjusted to align with the new price, and families of Lasell students will pay close to the same out-of-pocket price they currently pay, with a smaller-than-usual annual increase. On September 20th all enrolled full-time undergraduate students received a personalized estimate of their tuition charges and an overview of their Lasell financial aid package for the 2023-2024 academic year.
Like most colleges and universities, Lasell’s Board of Trustees sets tuition and fees each year. Tuition will likely continue to increase on an annual basis as it has in the past.
Typically, room and board charges are adjusted from year to year in order to cover increased costs. Lasell leadership is committed to keeping annual increases at the lowest rate possible. After this price reduction, Lasell’s room and board costs will be among the lowest in the Boston area and in all of New England.
Lasell will continue to offer aid, which is awarded based on high school academic performance and need-based financial aid. Further, Lasell uses the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FASFA) data to determine federal aid eligibility.
Now that the published price of tuition and room and board has been lowered, Lasell financial aid for the 2023-2024 academic year will be adjusted accordingly. Your net out-of-pocket cost will be close to what you are paying now, plus a smaller-than-normal annual tuition increase.
No. Eligibility for Federal Pell Grants are based on a family’s income and assets, as reported on the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Federal student loans remain available to all students who file the FAFSA.
