Internships Propel Lasell College to Top 10 List

January 18, 2018

New data analysis from U.S. News & World Report includes Lasell College among a list of the top 10 institutions where more than 95 percent of graduates complete internships.

Lasell, along with five other schools, rose to the top of the list for having 100 percent of its graduating seniors participate in an internship experience. The college tied with two others in Massachusetts, Endicott College and Wheelock College, for the top spot in the state. The high performance of the schools included on the list far exceeds the national average internship participation rate of ranked institutions, which holds at 42 percent.

Lasell is currently ranked 130th in the Regional Universities North category by U.S. News, which compares the school to others that offer a myriad of undergraduate degree options along with a robust selection of graduate programs. The internship listing is among several new analyses conducted by U.S. News with the mission of "providing students and parents a means to find which schools excel, or have room to grow, in specific areas that are important to them." Survey data is largely self-reported by each institution and analyzed by the publication for its overall rankings and now, for these "short lists" of performance areas.

According to the report, research from the National Association of Colleges and Employers "indicates that college students with paid internships or co-ops are more likely to be employed upon graduation and generally receive higher entry-level salaries than their peers without such experience." As part of its core programming, Lasell requires all students to participate in at least one internship experience, though many pursue up to three or four to gain experience and competencies in their chosen field.
