Lasell Hosts ART/Word Exhibit Marking Anniversary of Japanese Tsunami

February 29, 2012

Lasell College and the ART/Word collaborative will host a unique exhibit blending traditional, digital and interactive art during the month of March called Haiku - recognizing the spiritual strength of the Japanese people one year after a devastating tsunami hit that country.

The exhibit runs from February 28 to March 29, 2012 at Lasell's Wedeman Gallery with hours from 1- 4 pm Tuesdays, Wednesdays and Thursdays through March 29th. An artists' reception on March 3rd from 7 - 10 pm at the gallery is open to the public. Admission is free.

The 22 artists, including several Lasell professors, students and alums and other Boston-area artists, combined Haiku poetry with various displays of artwork. The timing of the exhibit coincides with the anniversary of a devastating tsunami that hit areas of coastal Japan last year on March 11, 2011.

"I'm pleased to see the variety and depth of the works and how personal they are," said Lasell Graphic Design Professor and founder of the ART/Word Collaborative Stephen Fischer.

ART/Word is an artists' collaborative that was created in the Boston area in 1981.

ART/Word Artists (Alphabetical) include: Annie Abdalla, Denorah Baldizar, Sue Batchelder, Lynn Blake, Jackie Brill, Ken Calhoun, Jill Carey, Emely DelSanto, Maritza Farrell, Stephen Fischer, Drew Gundlach, Mary Hart, Emmanuelle Le Gal, Margo Lemieux, Kayla McKenna, Felicia Menard, Janice Perry, Josh Randall, Donni Richman, Jinny Sagorin, Annee Spileos Scott, and Peter Watson.
