It's All Fun and Games

This fall, the Lasell University Athletic Department launched an official branch of intramural and recreational activities under the tutelage of Benjamin Lane '19. Lane was hired as a graduate assistant in the athletics department to coordinate and foster intramural sports while pursuing his MBA through the University's Graduate and Professional Studies division.
Though Lasell has a history of intramural activities, Lane's arrival marks the first time that an individual has been fully tasked with managing such a program. The fall's lineup of activities proved to be a positive addition to campus life; students found a way to meet new people, express their competitiveness, and explore healthy and fun ways to stay active.
This fall's activities included a flag football championship tournament, three-on-three basketball (featuring 10 participating teams), and game nights for ping pong. This winter, three-on-three pond hockey, billiards, corn hole, and eSports will run, in addition to a new activity developed by Lane.
"We will implement an event series called Res Wars," he says. "Throughout the semester, there will be events where house-based teams compete to win points in different activities. The winners will be crowned at the end of the semester."
Lane graduated from Lasell with a bachelor's degree in sport management and understands firsthand the importance of organized athletic activities on campus. A record-breaking captain and four-year starter on the Lasell cross country and indoor/outdoor track and field teams, Lane is eager to expand recreation at Lasell.
Lasell intramural activities are open to all students. Lane and his team handle game scheduling, hiring student officials, and the provision of most equipment. No practices are required; simply sign up to participate!
