Globally Recognized Public Relations Executive Larry Weber to Keynote Lasell’s COMDay

PR and marketing Executive Larry Weber, founder of one of the industry's first interactive marketing agencies and current CEO of the marketing firm Racepoint Global, will deliver the keynote address at Lasell's third annual COMDay event for communications majors March 10.

The full-day event, which will include networking opportunities for students, roundtable discussions with communication field leaders and lectures, is scheduled to begin at 9 am in de Witt Hall.

Weber, who will deliver his speech at 2 pm, founded the communications and marketing firm The Weber Group (now Weber Shandwick) which became one of the world's largest marketing firms, and currently is Chairman and CEO of Racepoint Global. He is a frequent public speaker and advocate for technology convergence, future of marketing, social media, and building online communities.

Weber also founded Thunderhouse, one of the first interactive marketing agencies, working with AT&T, General Electric and Microsoft, among others.

Other events scheduled throughout the day include the panel Connecting with the Public: Perspectives of Media and Public Relations, at 9:30 am; Speed Networking: What are Employers Looking for in New Hires, at 11 am; followed by a panel on Communication Networks in Sports and Media, at 12:45 pm. The Life After Lasell: Communication Alumni Panel is scheduled for 3:30 pm.

Communications professionals slated to participate in the Connecting with the Public panel include political media consultant William Bagley III, producer from NPR's Here and Now Amy Bracken, and staff reporter for the Lawrence Eagle Tribune Sara Brown.

Professionals joining students at the Speed Networking event represent a variety of organizations including the Boston Herald, Radio 92.9, Cradles to Crayons and MA Life Sciences, among others.

Sports Media professionals appearing at COMDay will include Shannon Dooling, a Field Producer for WBUR's Morning Edition; Emily Machado, Lasell's Director of Sports Information; and Len Mead, Vice President of Production and Programming at Comcast SportsNet New England.

The Lasell Communication Alumni Panel will feature Andrew DeCataldo ‘14 of Cone Communications, Kimberly Hooper ‘11 of Brigham and Women's Hospital, Jordan Mayblum '12 of The Wellesley Townsman, and more.

The day will cap off with a reception sponsored by the Office of Alumni Relations.
