Lasell University Combats COVID-19

November 12, 2020

Lasell University has continued its adjustment to the ebb and flow of the COVID-19 pandemic with an unwavering commitment to safety and a flexible approach to coursework, extracurriculars, and more.

While the full impact of COVID-19 is uncertain, it is undeniable that Lasell has remained agile throughout the pandemic. Safety has remained paramount on campus, and the University’s mantra of flexibility has made a significant difference in the community thus far.

This fall and continuing into the spring semester, Lasell offered three options for attendance to best suit student and family health and learning needs: residential, commuter, and virtual-only.

While other institutions have offered online-only options as well, many have sustained the same tuition price point. Lasell’s three learning options were introduced at scaled rates to fit the needs of its student body during a time of crisis.

Since August, Lasell has partnered with the Broad Institute to offer free testing to all on-campus community members. Anyone who is on campus more than twice a week must test twice a week on a regular schedule, and any other individuals on campus twice a week or less must be tested at least once that week. A comprehensive dashboard, updated daily, specifies the volume of tests conducted, percentage of positive cases, and more.

As of publication, Lasell has completed 19,820 tests with a 0.06 positive test percentage – well below rates around the country. The University’s testing program was recently highlighted by NBC Boston – a true testament to its success.

The University is grateful for its front-line workers, who continue to redefine resiliency as they rise to the occasion and work around the clock, with safety as their driving force. While the future is uncertain, Lasell continues to plan for the coming weeks, months, and years – all in the name of flexibility.
