Alum, Education Award Winner Anthony Petrelis '05 to Speak on Campus

Alum and winner of the prestigious 2014 National Milken Educator Award, Anthony Petrelis ‘05, will return to campus February 12 to speak about his work and his start in the education field.

Petrelis will speak February 12 at 5:30 pm in Rosen Auditorium as part of a new speaker series sponsored by Lasell's Education Department.

Education majors and minors are encouraged to attend to gain insight into the education field and learn how Petrelis won the Milken Award, known as the "the Oscar of Education." During the lecture Petrelis will discuss his career in education, the impact he has on students, and what qualities make a great teacher.

Petrelis currently resides in Medford, MA where he teaches at the McGlynn Elementary School. Beyond his responsibilities as a teacher he also serves as a football and basketball coach, school council member, summer program director, tutor, and MCAS prep program director.

Others in the education field participating in this new speaker series include, educator and consultant Dr. Patricia Kelly and school principal Dr. Carroll Blake. Both will speak in Rosen Auditorium on March 4th and April 1st, respectively. Dr. Kelly will discuss cultural responsiveness, while Dr. Blake will talk about closing the achievement gap.
