Congressman Joseph Kennedy III

Congressman Joe Kennedy III (D-MA 4th District) will deliver the keynote address at Lasell College's 165th Commencement ceremony on Saturday, May 11, 2019.

Lasell College President Michael B. Alexander shared in an announcement to the community that Congressman Kennedy's commitment to social justice, mental health issues, transgender rights, marriage equality, pay equity and comprehensive immigration reform makes him a compelling and timely speaker.

"A champion of human rights who works across the aisle for social change, Joe Kennedy will bring an important perspective to our campus. No doubt, Congressman Kennedy will engage, encourage and inspire our graduates as they prepare to embark on their own paths."

Prior to his election to Congress in 2013, Kennedy served as an Assistant District Attorney representing Middlesex County and the Cape and Islands. Kennedy earned a bachelor's degree in Management Science and Engineering at Stanford University and a J.D. from Harvard Law School and spent time in the Dominican Republic as a Peace Corps volunteer where he designed and implemented an economic development initiative.

Congressman Kennedy lives in Newton with his wife, Lauren, a health policy expert, their daughter, Eleanor and son, James.

Alexander noted that "Congressman Kennedy receives many requests and invitations. The fact that he will take part in Lasell's Commencement speaks volumes about the reputation of our students, faculty, and staff."
