Adjunct Faculty- Science Education

The Education Teacher Preparation Program in the School of Humanities, Education, Justice & Social Sciences at Lasell University is seeking a part-time instructor to teach a  face-to-face course that start January 18 to May 11, 2022.

Lasell is requiring Covid vaccination for all students, staff and faculty.  The course is all face-to-face classes that is already scheduled.

  • Course Title: ED 342/344 Teaching Scient Concepts Pre-K-6th grade; Course Days:  Fridays 1:00-3:30 pm

These times are set as students are already registered for the courses but opportunities for teaching in future semesters will be discussed with more flexibility on days/times.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Provide instruction for all sessions of assigned courses utilizing the college philosophy of connected learning and requirements set by the MA DESE Educator Preparation guidelines.
  • Provide a syllabus and course outline to students that clearly communicates course learning outcomes. An existing syllabus will be provided with MA DESE requirements.
  • Align some course assignments with departmental and college core curriculum goals learning goals and provide student work samples for college assessment purposes (sample assignments available)
  • Maintain office hours each week and timely communications with students via  Zoom or phone.  Respond to student emails within 24 hours.
  • Incorporate Canvas (online learning platform) into the course.
  • Keep accurate records of student progress (grades) and complete mid-semester and final grade reports using our Starfish system.

Qualifications:

A master’s degree in education in the area of Science Early Childhood or Elementary Education  is required.  Previous college teaching experience preferred.  A willingness to incorporate the college’s Connected Learning Philosophy into the course as well as a master’s degree in a related field are required (doctoral degree preferred).  Career-relevant experience such as research and/or statistics is a plus.  Some of these courses are part of our general education core curriculum in addition to major requirements; thus, the successful candidate will have experience teaching students from a variety of majors and be willing to collaborate with other instructors on core curriculum and major-specific learning goals. Familiarity with Canvas or other learning management systems a plus.
