Adjunct Faculty- Psychology; Developmental Psychology/Aging

The Social Sciences Program in the School of Social Sciences, Humanities & Education at Lasell College is seeking a part-time instructor to teach a class called Generations in America focused on issues of Aging for the spring semester.

The class is being offered in a face-to-face, hybrid/hy-flex format with a class meeting time Mondays and Wednesdays 2 – 3:15.

Course Description: This course offers a social-developmental, multidisciplinary overview of issues related to the expanding age population in the United States. Students examine aging stereotypes, characteristics of aging populations, and the impact of age-related forces on individuals in American society. The course is geared toward students in a variety of disciplines and provides a knowledge base that can be applied to other areas of study.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Provide instruction for all sessions of assigned courses utilizing the college philosophy of connected learning. At least 1 day of face-to-face, on-campus instruction is required although the ability to teach to a blended audience by providing options for online learning due to the pandemic will be required.
  • Provide a syllabus and course outline to students that clearly communicates course learning outcomes.
  • Align some course assignments with departmental and college core curriculum goals learning goals and provide student work samples for college assessment purposes (sample assignments available)
  • Maintain office hours each week.
  • Incorporate Canvas (online learning platform) into the course – training is provided.
  • Keep accurate records of student progress/grades and complete mid-semester and final grade reports.

Given ongoing uncertainty due to COVID, instructors should be prepared to teach remotely if circumstances change and to accommodate both in-person and remote learners in the same section if necessary.

Qualifications:

A willingness to incorporate the college’s Connected Learning Philosophy into the course as well as a master’s degree in a related field are required (doctoral degree preferred).  Experience teaching in both face-to-face and online formats preferred. Career-relevant experience such as counseling, social work or research is a plus.
