Surgical Technology Program Director

The School of Health Sciences at Lasell University in Newton, Massachusetts seeks a highly motivated, entrepreneurial, and collaborative individual to assume the responsibilities of a 12-month full-time position as Program Director for the Surgical Technology Program starting Fall 2022 appointment. The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence and enthusiasm in teaching and student advocacy; commitment to productivity and professional development; and active participation in school and college service

The successful candidate will join our growing undergraduate and graduate health sciences programs in the dynamic School of Health Sciences, established in 2018. Our recently opened state-of-the-art Science and Technology Center offers specialized laboratories including 4 science labs, exercise physiology lab, computer lab, health profession clinic, multipurpose classrooms, 29 faculty offices, and specialized study rooms.


The Surgical Technology Program Chair provides leadership and assumes responsibility for the entire Surgical Technology program. Duties include:

  • overseeing the design, development, and assessment of program curricula;
  • manage and maintain external accreditation requirements and compliance;
  • scheduling and staffing classes;
  • hiring, training, mentoring, and evaluating program adjunct faculty;
  • management of the program operating budget;
  • assisting with the coordination of clinical site placements and student performance assessment;
  • developing community and partnership contacts and developing and managing an advisory board;
  • teaching program courses as needed according to specified learning outcomes;
  • academic advising and career related counseling for students; monitoring student retention and identifying and assist at-risk students;
  • maintaining competency and currency in related healthcare research, trends, issues, and practices, including effective teaching strategies and assessment methods; and
  • providing support for program and institutional initiatives.
  • manage special projects as assigned by the Dean of the School of Health Sciences (including, but not limited to new student orientation programs and open houses, and campus events).
  • actively engage in retention activities including documented communication with both students and administration regarding attendance and progress.


  • Minimum of a Bachelor’s Degree in related field, Masters degree preferred
  • CST (Certified Surgical Tech eligible to practice in Massachusetts)
  •  3-5 years of experience as a Surgical Tech
  • Supervisory work experience
  • Ability to build relationships and act as a catalyst to achieve end-of-program student clinical learning outcomes and program outcomes
  • Excellent analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • Excellent organizational and delegation skills
  • Proven ability to engage, assist, and motivate students
  • Ability to employ administrative and academic technologies effectively
