Assistant Professor of Statistics and Data Science

The School of Health Sciences seeks a highly motivated, entrepreneurial, and collaborative individual to assume the responsibilities of Assistant Professor of Statistics and Data Science. This is a full-time, non-tenure-track, 9-month appointment to begin in the fall of 2023 reporting to the Dean of the School of Health Science. More senior rank will be considered based on experience and other credentials.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

The successful candidate will demonstrate excellence and enthusiasm in teaching and student advocacy; commitment to productivity and professional development; and active participation in school and college service that includes but is not limited to faculty standing committee work and academic advising.

Teaching responsibilities include courses in the statistics and the data analytics program, with additional teaching assignments where expertise aligns with program needs. The ideal candidate should be highly experienced and skilled in undergraduate data analytics curriculum development that includes the instruction and use of industry recognized analytics tools for delivery online and on campus.

Our growing undergraduate and graduate programs are looking to enhance and diversify offerings. The successful candidate will have the ability to work both within and beyond program specific needs to shape the on-going development of the curricula offered within the School of Health Sciences.

Successful candidates should demonstrate a strong commitment to teaching excellence, serving as a champion for the data analytics program through positive interaction with prospective students and the public. Student mentoring, academic advising at the undergraduate level, and new course development to support the dynamic and growing area is required. Candidates should have strong communication and interpersonal skills and a commitment to collegiality and teamwork.

Candidates will demonstrate an avid interest in utilizing a project-focused approach to teaching, supporting the University’s educational philosophy, Connected Learning. Faculty in all disciplines at Lasell may have the opportunity to teach in our Honors Program as well as the Core Curriculum, which could include teaching First Year Seminar, a Knowledge Perspective course in one of four areas, a sophomore multidisciplinary course, or a section of the junior Ethics Experience. QUALIFICATIONS:

  • A doctorate in Statistics, Data Analytics, Mathematics, or related field with demonstrated expertise in data science and related fields is required. Exceptional ABD or MS candidates with teaching and industry experience will also be considered.
  • Collegiate-level teaching experience
  • Proven ability to attract and retain  new students
  • Ability to teach upper level courses in the Statistics, Data Analytics, and Applied Mathematics for majors
  • Knowledge and desire for culturally responsible pedagogy appropriate for STEM related programs
  • Ability to serve as a capstone research advisor for undergraduate and graduate students
  • Proficiency in and the ability to teach students programming languages (e.g., R, Python)
  • Ability to perform data analysis with state-of-the-art methods in statistics; experience in machine learning and other advanced data science tools
