Elaine Butler Ryan escaped the frigid cold of New Hampshire in January to her favorite island of Anguilla. She says that "beautiful beaches, a variety of restaurants, and wonderful people" can be found there, and that "beach bars are a way of life!" On weekend afternoons in Anguilla, she follows the music, where there is reggae at the beach bars. It is her January happy place!

Carol Schumacher and classmates from 1961 in AfricaCarol (Shu) Schumacher (seated), Laura Jensen, and Gwen Johnson Redding, all former Draperites, headed to South Africa this past summer for a memorable journey. They donned safari caps and windbreakers and took off on South African Airways for a visit to Cape Town. The adventures began with Table Mountain, Cape Point, Simon's Town, Chapman's Peak, the penguin colony, Kirstenbosch Gardens, and a vineyard visit. Then came Victoria Falls, time in Zimbabwe, a dinner on the Zambezi River, the Kapama Private Game Reserve, and every animal sighting you can imagine (the big five in two days). Off to the Chobe River, more animals, birds, and thrilling sunsets. The last stop was Botswana, a place not to be missed on any trip to Africa. The laughs and memories continue with these special friends. And, of course, they missed Elaine (Laine) Butler Ryan.
