Patrick Girard '14 - Box Office Manager

Employer: Connecticut Tigers
Major: Sport Management

I am currently the Box Office Manager for the Connecticut Tigers - the Single A Short Season Team of the Detroit Tigers. In this position I run the box office daily with printing and mailing out tickets plus manage box office staff and the accounts at the ballpark. I’m also a group sales associate. So with all my other duties on the operational side of the ticket sales, I make daily calls to bring in clients into the ballpark. Lasell has prepared me in every way for this step in my life.

All my experiences have helped me get to where I am today. I learned a lot of time management with being so involved in the college. The college gave me real world experience in the classroom and outside of the classroom.

My path from graduation day on Mother’s Day 2012 to where I am today was very hard but rewarding. I didn’t land a job right out of college which in the sport field is pretty challenging. I did another internship starting January 2013 with the Lakewood BlueClaws. It’s one of the top internship programs on the east coast. While in Lakewood, I learned the ticketing system and how to make those sales pitches and bring people into the ballpark. Once that internship was over in September 2013 I kept applying to other places. In April 2014, the General Manager of Connecticut Tigers had a Box Office Manager position open. I applied and with my hard work during my internship with while at Lasell, I got the position.

If I could give one piece of advice to any incoming first year student it would be to get involved in the community at Lasell. Do everything possible because that’s where you will get the experience to be ready for the real world.
