Employer: American Red Cross New Hampshire
Major: Communications

I develop PSAs, press releases, marketing materials and other external needs to educate New Hampshire residents on American Red Cross programs and services, more specifically humanitarian relief efforts following disasters or emergencies. About a year ago, I had the opportunity to deploy nationally to Denver, Colo. to assist residents who were in the beginning stages of recovering from devastating flooding. During my deployment, I focused on social media emergency management, video editing, article writing and media relations.

The experiences and education I received from Lasell truly prepared me for real-life work situations. Many of my professors used their own personal and professional experiences to educate students on situations that could happen in the communications field and the different way to resolve those challenges. Working for a disaster relief organization, you have to be on your toes as information is constantly changing.

Every course that I took at Lasell is incorporated almost daily in my field of work. While a student, I was focused in sports communication. Now, I use what I learned in the Sports Management courses for when we host our yearly golf classic fundraiser. Since I wear many hats with the Red Cross, I never really know what will come my way each day. One day, I could be in a radio station recording Public Service Announcements and after that I could be en route to a family who just lost everything in a home fire. I also think that being involved as a Resident Assistant while at Lasell prepared me to be ready for anything that comes my way.

My greatest accomplishment at Lasell was honestly taking everything that was given to me by my professors and peers, then running with it.
