Biography:
Professor Annie Ou specializes in the teaching of ESL, and in particular, ESL writing. Her research interests include the writing processes and strategies of ESL students, and she has presented her scholarly work at the International Conference on EFL Education.

Previously, Professor Ou was a graduate instructor in the English department at Purdue University, where she taught both regular and ESL sections of composition courses, and served as a certified rater and instructor for graduate ESL students in Purdue's Oral English Proficiency Program. During this time she received various awards for instructional excellence.

In addition to teaching in the US, Professor Ou has also spent several summers teaching a variety of courses in Taiwan and China, and organizing ESL summer programs abroad. Because of her involvement in establishing annual English summer camps in China, she received "The City of Houston Award" from the Houston Mayor Bill White in 2006.

What do you like about teaching at Lasell?
"I enjoy interacting with culturally diverse students in a small classroom setting and helping them with their writing through individual conferences. The colleagues at Lasell are also very welcoming and provide a supportive and warm environment. Lastly, I admire Lasell’s educational aim in providing students with hands-on life experiences through study abroad programs, internships, service-learning, and community-based learning."
