Nakupenda Tanzania

Lasell student in TanzaniaWords cannot even begin to describe how grateful I am to have the opportunity to be in Tanzania. I do not think it is possible to convey how I am feeling but I will try.

Yesterday we were invited to Festo's home. Festo is one of the teachers at the school. We were greeted by his entire family when we arrived. He is married and they have four children. They prepared wonderful snack for us such as popcorn, bananas, and watermelon. They also served us tea, water, and soda (the passion fruit Fanta soda is amazing). I loved getting to know Festo outside of school. His family sang and danced for us. Their hospitality was out of this world. I have never met more genuine or loving people than the people I have met in Tanzania.

Today was our last day of teaching. I have never felt more pure love than I have today. To wrap up teaching, we had the kids write letters. The kids wrote letters to both Mattias and I. They made each letter personal. At the end of the class I handed out a note I wrote individually for each student. The kids at this school are so engaged and eager to learn that my love for teaching has grown even more which I know was possible. I have created bonds with these students that I will never forget.

At first I was nervous about coming to Tanzania. Now, I don't want to leave. This place has become a home for me and I am comfortable.
