Our Last Day at T.N. Kirnon & Learning About Being An Ethical Tourist

January 13, 2018

Team Antigua's Last DaySadly today was our last day at T.N. Kirnon. This morning we shared pen pal letters from Roslindale, Massachusetts, and our students excitedly wrote letters back to them. The teachers made endless amounts of food today for a Potluck lunch today and it was delicious. We continued to create relationships with students and teachers as the afternoon went on. We are so thankful that the school opened their arms and hearts to us. The relationships that created throughout the past week will not be forgotten. The knowledge that we have bounced off of each other we will take into our classrooms; from methods of classroom management to academic lessons.

As the bus pulled away, tears were shed hoping that we impacted the students as much as they impacted us. We were then able to connect with teachers at the seafood festival where we felt like tourists for the first time. This festival was an eye opening experience to see how a tourist acts and how service learning trips impact daily life within the culture. We will be forever thankful for the relationship we built with Ms. Knowles, our second grade teacher. This experience will be one that we will never forget!
